Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (C.P.A.P.)
is a treatment for patients with sleep apnea.
There are five sleep stages a person
experiences. Sleep apnea is a condition that
occurs while in REM sleeping which is the fifth
stage of sleeping. In this stage your body stops
breathing for a few seconds and causes you to
wake and start breathing. Because of this your
body must begin the cycle again causing you to
wake up tired. After proper diagnostic test
ordered by your physician are done and it is
determined that you have sleep apnea your
physician will order a CPAP that is medically
necessary.
An experienced technician will instruct you on
proper usage and maintenance of your CPAP. A
CPAP consists of a CPAP machine, heated
humidifier, mask or nasal pillows, headgear and
related accessories. These items are essential
for proper treatment of your condition.
